Telegraph UK: Ayatollah Sistani, “I no longer have the power to keep Iraq from Civil War.”
The most important Iraqi leader is the moderate Shiite, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani. The top American leaders meet with him every month or two, and he has generally helped to keep the peace.
