WASHINGTON - The Bush administration on Monday said it plans to let federal agencies decide for themselves whether highways, dams, mines and other construction projects might harm endangered animals and plants.

The proposal, which does not require the approval of Congress, would reduce the mandatory, independent reviews that government scientists have been performing for 35 years. Developers welcomed the plan, while environmentalists derided it.

Bald eagles are among the wildlife protected by the Endangered Species Act over the years. The Interior Department announced plans to streamline the act, a move criticized by environmentalists. The proposal would reduce the mandatory, independent reviews that government scientists have been performing for 35 years.

Just in case there’s anyone out there who is still in doubt on this point, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserver for 18 years under 4 different presidential administrations — and who is generally credited with knowly at least a little bit about policy has just stated in his new memoir an interesting truth:

I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to state what everyone knows, that the Iraq War was mostly about oil.

So much for Democracy being ‘On the March’. Or a better question would be, do you think we would be as enthusiastic about injecting democracy into Iraq if its main exports were, say, Lettuce and Pickles?

By the way, did you know that the original military name for the plan was (O)peration (I)raqi (L)iberation? …They actually did use that name for a few weeks until they changed it… for obvious reasons. Don’t believe me? Check it out:

If there’s one long, exhaustive list of facts in any one place that you can reference quickly on the Internet, this is it.  Take a look, guaranteed there are at least a few that you have never seen before. Here are three examples:

(1.)   In 1917 when the British invaded at the end of WWI, British Foreign Minister Arthur Balfour said, “I do not care under what system we keep this oil, but I am quite clear it is all-important for us that this oil should be available.”
Or this one:

(2.)  Saddam Hussein began his career as … a thug… on the payroll of the CIA.
Or this one too:

(3.)  One of Bush’s most infamous public statements:  “I’m driven with a mission from God. …God would tell me, ‘George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq…’ And I did.”

These facts are all referenced thoroughly on multiple places.  We must learn to pay closer attention to what our leaders say… and hold them accountable.  Read more:

Moreover, MSNBC.com reports that Chicago is the odds-on favorite to win. The other finalists are places like Rome, Prague and Tokyo.

While those are all good places, Europe and Asia have been chosen a lot, and the U.S. is sort of next up in the rotation. The U.S. last hosted the Summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996 and in L.A. in 1984.  The U.S. hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002.

But, it will have been 20 years for a Summer games between 1996 and 2016.
